Selfridges & Co.
Oxford Street, London

B+R Architects are appointed as part of a framework of consultants working on this iconic retail destination in London’s Oxford Street.  The scope includes a comprehensive plant and infrastructure replacement programme for all of the Selfridges buildings within this city block.

The buildings include the associated hotel, car park and head offices.  A full review of the existing services, plant and equipment has been undertaken with the framework M&E engineers and a full strategy for maintenance, replacement and relocation has been developed.

This strategy seeks to rationalise plant locations, increase efficiency of equipment and reduce energy consumption while maintaining and improving upon the building fabric and accommodation.

The building has been progressively covered with the mechanical plant required to service this premier department store.  The programme of replacement will allow a rationalisation and significant improvement of the visual appearance of the exterior and interior of the building

“Modernising an iconic retail destination”

We work closely with the client and consultant team to deliver these objectives within the confines of a Grade II listing, while the store remains fully operational. Our extensive experience in live retail environments has been invaluable in assisting the team in a strategy and phasing which can deliver a world class retail destination to the client’s specific standards whilst remaining invisible to the customer.
